New Education Policy: Five big changes in school, higher education

The Indian government has come up with the new education policy of 2020 by changing 34 years old policy which was formed in 1986. NEP which is approved by the union cabinet makes a great reform in school as well as higher education which includes teaching also.

Some of the highlights of the NEP 2020 are, 

  • A single regulator for higher education institutions
  • entry and exit options in degree courses
  • Discontinuation of MPhil programmes
  • Low stakes board exams
  •  Common entrance exams for universities

With an emphasis on Early Childhood Care and Education , the 10+2 structure of school curriculum is replaced by a 5+3+3+4 curricular structure corresponding to ages 3-8, 8-11, 11-14, and 14-18 years respectively. Higher Education Commission of India(HECI)  is also set up as a single body for the entire education system. In which public and private education system will be under the same set of rules and regulation as well as academic standard. Also it says that government will phase out the affiliation of college within 15 years and also establish grands for autonomy to college. 

Science, arts, commerce gets blurred.Under NEP 2020, there will be no separation between arts and science also between curriculum and extra curricular, Students can select the subjects which they like and also in this internship will also be included.
